Lee Woods is not quite the man he used to be.
But he is all the better for it – after shedding 6st 4lb in less than 12 months.
The 36-year-old father-of-two, of Long Road, Lowestoft, has struggled with his weight for most of his adult life and at his heaviest he weighed 21st 7lb, had a 50in waist and wore XXXL clothes.
He also suffered with diabetes and high blood pressure.
Now, after slimming down, he feels much healthier and runs and cycles every day. He has a 32in waist and no longer needs to take medication for diabetes and blood pressure.
Mr Woods, who works at Euro Car Parts in Whapload Road, had previously tried several times to shed the pounds but failed and often ended up regaining the weight he had lost, and more.
When his wife Natasha, 32, joined the Slimming World class held at Gunton Baptist Church, Mr Woods started losing weight by eating the same meals and decided to join the group too.
He said: “I was really nervous about walking into the group that first time. You don’t think it is geared for men as well and I thought it was a women’s group.
“But there are quite a few men there as well and it is actually geared around everyone.”
He added: “Now I find it funny that I was so scared because I got such a warm welcome and I soon realised there was nothing to be worried about because we were all in the same boat – we all just wanted to lose weight.
“I honestly haven’t looked back since that day. I look forward to going to group every week now.
“I always pick up tips and ideas and we have good fun. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Once he started to slim down, Mr Woods felt confident enough to start being more active and be now runs and cycles every day and goes to the gym regularly.
To keep the weight off, he sticks to a healthy and balanced diet but still enjoys his favourite treats in moderation.
He said he felt like a new man on the inside as well as the outside.
“I might have lost more than 6st but I’ve gained so much more,” he said. “I feel happier, healthier and have loads more confidence. I can’t believe the difference in me in just 12 months – and neither can my family and friends.”
Sophie Leggett, who runs the Gunton Slimming World group that Mr Woods attends, said she was extremely proud of what he had achieved over the past year.
She said: “Lee is proof that, if you make small, manageable changes to the way you cook and eat and get the right support, it is possible to make your New Year’s resolutions a reality.”
The Gunton Slimming World group is held at Gunton Baptist Church on Thursdays at 10am, 12pm, 5.30pm or 7.30pm. For more information, ring Ms Leggett on 07817 599313.
