Businesses were briefly evacuated in Lowestoft’s Whapload Road after a propane cylinder in a van started to leak this morning.

Fire engines from Lowestoft north and south fire stations were called out at 10.05am to the scene opposite the Birds Eye factory.

Surrounding buildings were evacuated and a cordon put in place while the firefighters entered the Ford Transit van to make the cylinder safe.

Police were also called in to help evacuate the buildings and control traffic.

The incident had been dealt with just before 10.30am.
