The organisers of the Lowestoft airshow have announced today that the event will not go ahead next year.
This afternoon the directors and committee of the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, made the decision to cancel next year’s aerial spectacular.
The decision comes after organisers needed to find £60,000 to top up the airshow’s wet weather contingency reserve to make sure the event could go ahead next year.
However the fund has not reached its target - leading to today’s confirmation that the show will not go ahead next summer.
A airshow spokesman said; “The directors and committee meet today to decide whether the airshow could be held in 2013.
“Unfortunately it has been decided it can not go ahead.
“In reaching this decision the directors investigated all areas - underwriting, sponsorship, out of event funding, event loss insurance and off course trimming the costs of the airshow itself.
“We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over many years.”
The spokesman was keen to point out that the directors and committee members hope future airshows can still be held.
It was estimated that up to 300,000 people attended this year’s two day show - which saw only £85,000 collected from visitors.
Despite the poor weather, this year’s show earned praise for the quality of its flying displays. However finding the £300,000 to pay for each shows has proved increasingly difficult for organisers.
The airshow began in 1997 and in 2004 a social enterprise the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival Ltd was set up to take over the two day show, which previously had been run by Waveney District Council.
Naturists are to be banned from a nationally-renowned Norfolk beach following complaints about anti-social behaviour committed in the area.

And then there's that stupid train station without a roof-it was good idea to take the roof off it and remove it-it can now let the stink of all the smell and sewerage out or is it something to do with Big Mac.

Well I've not exactly been into Lowestoft for more than 5 Years and I have no intentions of doing so as its such a sleezy place and full of drug dealers and low lifes with streets full of rubbish and chip and news papers blowing in the wind everywhere no wonder people want to avoid Lowestoft-I've heard from sources its rougher that Grimsby and some Cities in the East Midlands now.

The air show couldn't attract sponsors because despite the Journal repeating it over and over again it doesn't bring any money into the town. The people it did attract were all too tight to put their hands in their pockets and so inevitably it failed.A shame in lots of ways to see hard work wasted. No maybe, just maybe with this irrelevance out of the way as much effort can be put into sorting out whats wrong with this grubby dismal town so that it can attract people who do have money that they've earned to spend, rather than just their dole or benefits.

Colin, the air show is nothing to do with WDC. They do not fund it, nor do they organise or run it. It's not going ahead next year purely because the sums don't add up.

It say's a lot about the Great British public that over the course of 2 days the people who supposedly attended the Air Show could not even manage to contribute £1 each. Presumably they did have enough money to buy plenty of beer, cigarettes and burgers!!! The Brits seem to be able to throw money willy nilly at fund raising TV events fronted by 'Celebs' which in the majority of cases end up raising millions of pounds and benefiting people thousands of miles from the UK, but when it comes to donating only £1 per person to benefit the local economy the British Public develops Short Arms & Deep Pocket Syndrome.

Absolute hogwash Tea&biscuits-the Residents have give money for it and have continued to pay out for it over the years-its central Government pulling the strings with WDC and telling them exactly what to do or else-no one has any idea what goes on behind closed doors but I bet I'm right-the Tory snobs just don't like it and seeing the lower classes have a little bit of time out and some fun 1 or 2 days out of the whole trying year.

Sounds like you have no idea about the air show Colin, but just want to bore people with political nonsense. The air show has nothing to do with politicians or politics. It's the tight-fisted Lowestoft residents who have trashed the air show.

The Lowestoft Airshow was going fine without any hiccups when the Labour Government were in power Ken and now the Tories have come along they have trashed up and ruined it just like everything else they interfere with and we have to tolerate that although I did not vote and never will again because none of them grubby little parasites do anyone or anything any good.

I can't see what relevance CJW's comments have to this article. It's not as if Central Government have any control on fund raising for a local event such as the now departed Lowestoft Air Show
