Lowestoft Town’s match against Hendon FC tonight was cancelled after the pitch failed an inspection.

The Trawlerboys were due to face Hendon in a Bostik League Premier Division clash at the Amber Dew Events Stadium (Crown Meadow) this evening.

The club said: “This evening’s match against Hendon FC has been postponed. Details of a re-arrangment will be released in due course.

Earlier, the club had announced: “There will be a noon pitch inspection to decide whether this evening’s game against Hendon goes ahead.”

With four home matches due to be played this month, a rallying call has gone out to the public to back the cash-strapped Blues, who are facing a “near critical” financial situation.

Yesterday top scorer Jake Reed joined promotion-chasing neighbours Leiston, while chairman Alan Green stepped down citing health issues – less than 24 hours after the club’s financial plight was made public.

Mr Green told the club’s official website: “It is with great sadness that I am stepping down as chairman with immediate affect. I was honoured when I was nominated for the post and truly felt that I could assist in taking the club forward. However, circumstances have proven very difficult and this has had a huge detrimental effect on my health and well-being and in hindsight to take on such a monumental task at my time of life was perhaps not one of my better decisions.

“I know I had and still have the support of the board and many of the fans but I have come to this decision for two reasons.

“Firstly, I haven’t got the energy due to my health to continue to push forward in this important role and secondly, this would make way for perhaps a more dynamic person who could invest in the club and carry it to where it deserves to be.”
