Lowestoft to host offshore renewables conference

OrbisEnergy, Lowestoft’s innovation centre for the offshore renewable energy sector, will be hosting leading industry players who will offer the latest news from the industry along with expert advice and support to businesses in the region.
Tuesday’s Technology and Innovation in Offshore Renewables conference includes a talk by Terry Hogg, technology commercialisation manager of Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
Mr Hogg will explain how the network intends to lead the way in ensuring the rapid development and commercialisation of innovative technologies to bring the maximum economic benefit to the sector.
Richard Ousey, from GROW:Offshore Wind, will be outlining the opportunities and support available for manufacturers across the supply chain.
And Lowestoft-based marine science specialists Cefas, who received the EEEGR Low Carbon Innovation Award in 2013, will have Jon Rees talking about some of its pioneering work for the industry in wind, wave and tidal monitoring, survey and construction support.
Delegates will also hear from Ranjit Mene, head of offshore sales for Senvion SE, talking about Thornton Bank, the world’s first industrial scale offshore wind farm using 6MW turbines.
Stuart Thornton, UK country manager for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, will describe his company’s advanced universal foundation process and Johnathan Reynolds, business development lead for OrbisEnergy, will talk about all that is happening in the region to support innovation and business growth.
Mr Reynolds said: “All together, it is a unique opportunity to find out what can and is happening in our sector and where to find support and funding to grow a business
“The East of England is leading the UK’s offshore renewable energy industry and supporting companies to create new ideas, accelerate technology development and exploit new innovations.
“This event lets us examine and progress it all under one roof.”
The half-day event starts at 9am with a welcome from Waveney MP Peter Aldous and concludes with a networking lunch.
