The fifth annual Lowestoft model engineering and model making exhibition will take place later this month – with a diverse range of exhibits inspiring people of all ages.

With the Halesworth and District Model Engineering Society (HDMES) organising the exhibition, this year’s event is being held once more at the Ormiston Denes Academy in Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21.

HDMES exhibition committee chairman, Kevin Rackham, said: “This year’s event will again be showcasing local and not so local clubs and societies with a range of modelling disciplines.

“Ranging from traditional model engineering in all its guises to boats, aircraft, model railways, dolls houses and steampunk, this year the exhibition takes over two large halls, and at least eight classrooms, with live steamers and other displays outside, weather permitting.”

Among the many highlights and “hundreds of super exhibits” that will be on display include model locomotives, traction engines, cars, lorries, model railway layouts, working stationary engines, model boats, radio controlled trucks, fixed wing aircraft together with clocks, automata, Lego and much more.

Associated trade stands will be represented along with hot and cold refreshments.

The exhibition runs from 10am to 5pm on October 20 and from 10am to 4pm on October 21, with outside attractions – which are weather dependant – finishing at 4pm both days.

The main beneficiary from this family friendly event will again be Special Objectives for the Local Disabled (SOLD) – a charity based on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate, which is run by and for disabled people and aims to give them access back into a workshop environment.

With free parking available at the Academy for the exhibition, and buses stopping outside the school grounds, entry costs £5 for adults, £2 for children aged between 12 and 18 and there will be free entry for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
