Coastguard rescue officers were called into action after reports of a woman in distress in the sea.

The Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue Team responded to the 999 call from a member of the public who had seen the woman in the water and was severely concerned for her wellbeing.

They arrived at Links Road beach, Lowestoft, just after 9pm on Friday, July 13, at the same time as the ambulance service.

The casualty had just been dragged onto the beach by the witnesses as she had drifted back to shore.

The team assisted in providing immediate first aid to the woman and then helped her off the beach using a basket stretcher.

She was put straight into the waiting ambulance and taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston for treatment.
