A Lowestoft actor and director will be staging her first ever play at one of the country’s most important arts and drama festivals.

Charlotte Barker, 23, is taking her Flat Pack show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August and has used her experience of setting out on an acting and performing career for her play.

Flat Pack is about a young woman who moves to the city and settles in with new housemates resulting in some comic moments,

The former Kirkley High School student, who is known as Charlotte McGuinness in the performing world, has co-written Flat Pack and she will producing and directing the play at the festival.

It is the first production staged by Charlotte’s theatre Company Ink Dolls which she founded last year with her friend Emily-Jane McNeil.

They became friends after they met in the first year of their acting degrees at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where Charlotte is still studying.

Charlotte, who studied drama at East Norfolk Sixth College in Gorleston and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, is now eagerly counting the days until the festival.

She said “I can’t wait to get to the Fringe, there’s nothing better to do with your summer than to be taking your own production to one of the biggest, boldest and brightest festivals on earth.

“The Edinburgh Fringe is a brilliant opportunity to create, produce and market your own theatre while experiencing all the weird and wonderful performance the world has to offer.”

Alongside Flatpack and studying in Glasgow, Charlotte is also co–writing a screenplay based on a modern retelling of Lysistrata.

In November she can be seen acting in the The Country Wife, playing Lady Fidget.

She first showed an interest in performance when she appeared at the Marina Theatre aged three with the June Glennie School of Dance. She was also a member of the Seagull Theatre youth group and had been named as a Lowestoft Carnival Queen.

Flat Pack is running from between August 18 and 24 at Theatre 1, Surgeons Hall on Nicolson Street, Edinburgh.
