Archant 2017

Take a trip down literary lane at an art gallery’s first exhibition of 2017.

Once Upon A Time – Wayland Book Fest will feature literary related art as well as workshops and a chance to meet local artists and authors.

The exhibition at the Dragonfly Gallery in Watton, which runs from February 25 to March 11, is especially aimed at young adults with a penchant for prose or poetry.

Organisers at the Wayland Partnership are also appealing for local businesses to get involved in promoting the event.

During the exhibition local writers will be attending to meet people, talk about their work and sign copies of their books.

There will be three workshops at Wayland House: life writing with artist, writer and gallery patron Sue Welfare on February 25; a poetry and creative writing class with local poet Heidi Williamson on March 4; and an illustration session on March 11 with Andy Scordellis, artist, designer and illustrator.

Places on these workshops are limited and will cost just £10, thanks to funding from Breckland Council and Watton Town Council. For more information contact Wayland House on 01953 883915.

There also be competitions and book swap sessions – bring books you no longer need and exchange them for others, or just come along to borrow a new book.

Chair of trustees at Wayland Partnership Jan Godfrey said: “For those who love books, those who have lost the habit of reading and those who have never found the time or inclination to read there will be plenty to see and do.”

Watton businesses are being encouraged to get involved by designing a window display of their favourite, well-known children’s book, with a competition for shoppers to guess which story is being depicted.

There will also be an award for the best window. More information will be available from Wayland House.
