Norwich Crown Court heard yesterday from prosecutor Chris Morgan that the victim had just left a family home in Lakenham when he heard a car accelerating towards him. The car clipped him and two men got out and bungled him into the back seat.

Sitting either side of him, the two men punched him and the driver of the car also thumped him, when he stopped the vehicle, as the victim was driven around Norwich for about an hour. One of the gang told the victim, “You know why we are here, you know what we have come for”.

An eyewitness had seen the gang bundle the man into the car and contacted police with the car registration number. The gang’s car was later stopped on the A140 and the four men were arrested. They were each found with cash on them and many of the notes had the victim’s fingerprints on them. All four pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at earlier hearings, and appeared for sentencing yesterday.

Hoxley Baron, 23, from Wolffe Gardens, London, was jailed for 14 months, Kyran Downer, 23, from Argyll Road, London, for 12 months, Silver Gordon, 24, from Abbey Road, London, for 15 months, and Connor Jones, 21, from Sandford Road, London, for 16 months.

Kaja Reiff-Musgrove, for Gordon, said he had a very harsh childhood and his mother did not give him the care she should have.

For Baron, Naeem Karbhari said he was trying to turn his life around, while, for Jones, Michael Clare said the victim was well-known to Norfolk police and his injuries were not that bad. For Downer, Rosen said: “It was not as lengthy an incident as the Crown made out. He’s the father of a two-year-old who lives in Norwich. He’s hoping to go to college when he’s released and become a plumber.”

A deprivation order was also made for the forfeiture of the Audi car, worth about 2,000, that the gang travelled in to Norwich.

Downer was ordered to pay £315 towards costs, Baron £425.50, Gordon £260, and Jones £275.
