A squadron from the Norfolk-based Light Dragoons has been deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 90-strong light cavalry troop, led by Major Ben Moody, was deployed last week for a six month tour to provide reassurance and maintain stability in the region ahead of the October elections.

They will act as the “eyes and ears” of Commander EUFOR – the European Union Force - helping to anticipate, monitor and prevent civil unrest in the country. It is the first operational deployment for the regiment, based at Swanton Morley, near Dereham, since returning from Afghanistan in 2012. Captain Harry Amos, 28, said: “We will be patrolling as a reassuring presence on the ground to connect with the local community and to gain an understanding of atmospherics in the area. We will also be working alongside other agencies and sharing information with them so that any signs of trouble can be pre-empted.”
