The Sheringham Lifeboat was launched at the request of Humber Coastguard at Just after 3.10pm to go to the assistance of a swimmer thought to be in trouble.

The swimmer was reported to be about half a mile off shore off West Runton Car Park.

The partner of the swimmer was very concerned when after about 30 minutes he did not return to the beach and phoned Humber Coastguard.

The coastguard then contacted the lifeboat which was launched and located the swimmer as he finally reached the shore safely.

The current Sheringham lifeboat is an Atlantic 85 rigid inflatable boat named The Oddfellows after The Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows who donated the cost. The Atlantic 85 is one of the new generation of RNLI B-class Atlantic inshore lifeboats, first developed by the RNLI from a design originated at Atlantic College, South Wales.
