A demonstration of lifesaving skills at sea has given a funding boost to a young girl who is battling cancer.

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Lifeboat Station has held its annual demonstration evening at Gorleston, which also featured crews from Caister, Hemsby and Lowestoft lifeboat stations, RNLI lifeguard and Coastguards.

During the event funds were collected for Lucie Hurd, four and who is the daughter of the coxswain of Hemsby Lifeboat Daniel Hurd. Lucie has lung and kidney cancer.

A statement from the lifeboat station said: “It was amazing to see the pier so packed on a beautiful evening in Gorleston and we thank you all for your love and support. At times like this it is wonderful to see the community come together to raise over £700 so that Lucie, Amanda and Dan and their family can enjoy days out and this money can help out towards costs backwards and forwards to hospital.”
