As thousands of people head to town and city centres to spend their Christmas Day cash and vouchers we are urging people to do their bit to support the smaller, independent shops.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

By supporting them it helps the region’s economy grow by keeping local people in business and in jobs.

Throughout the day we will be using our twitter accounts @edp24 and @eveningnews and #lovelocal to urge traders to highlight their Boxing Day deals.

They will then be published on this website.

We also want shoppers to tweet us pictures of the best bargain they have snapped up from an independent, incuding details of what it is, where it was purchased and how much it cost.

Here are the responses so far ...

‏@ProudlockHarry

@EDP24 we have up to 50% off in store with 30% off this gorgeous set

‏@LizCobbold

@EDP24 Adnams chapelfield open and will donate to the EDP Floods appeal for every sale of Fizz tomorrow

@LizCobbold

@EDP24 £2:50 for each bottle of champagne sold

  • Yes billy, there's nothing better than waking up on Boxing day to find Bill Borrett and his chinless chums ripping up your garden on horseback whilst chasing poor old foxy around - no wonder people seek the sanctuary of the local high street!?

  • Quite right, Alecto. Also, city centre's (sic) in first line of article. Are the editors sleeping it off?

  • Rats, la barbe. They've woken up the bloke with the grammar book and he's corrected the article. And I was having such fun!

  • I have always supported small shops but now only do so where I receive polite and efficient service. I have literally spent thousands of pounds shopping in a well known dept store and supermarket in Holt but very poor customer service and being overcharged on several occasions now means that I take my custom elsewhere. I find that larger stores or chains really do know what customer service is and the staff are trained to that effect.

  • Apostrophe in the wrong place. Unless of course Norfolk only has one independent shop.
