A new laser tag venue is set to open in a city centre multi-storey car park.

A licensing request has been submitted to Norwich City Council to open the venue, called, Labyrinth, on the first floor of the car park on Rose Lane.

The application, made by Labyrinth Norwich Limited, states the premises would operate as a “family entertainment cafe and laser tag birthday centre.”

Facilities on the entrance level include a cafe and an area for children’s entertainment with the laser tag facility occupying a mezzanine floor, spanning the full width of the 154sq/m unit.

The request states the cafe would include tables and chairs for up to 30 birthday party guests as well as seating and sofas for another 30 people.

The venue also includes a small movie lounge with a large television screen and a soft seating area where films would be screened twice a day during the week.

The application states: “These will be animated movies following a space theme, intended to offer background free-of-charge entertainment to pre-school children visiting the cafe with parents and carers.”

It also states movies could be shown at other times “during private hire parties or as additional entertainment for special events.”

The company has also applied to play music in the laser tag arena and cafe area.

The request explains that “music for the laser tag arena will run through an amplifier but not be so loud as to disturb the cafe area.

“The laser tag arena is situated on a mezzanine floor which is soundproofed.”

The venue is looking to open from 10am to 2pm during the week and 9am to 8pm at weekends, but it may be booked outside these times for private hire, including late night parties until 11pm.

Members of the public have until February 10 to comment on the licensing request.

The multi-storey car park on Rose Lane, which is run by Norwich City Council, was opened in 2016 and cost £7m to build.

It has space for 595 cars and also has space inside to be let out to businesses.

Last year the car park, with its perforated steel facade, was named the country’s best new car park in the British Parking Awards.
