Drifting snow creates difficult road conditions - and a playground for youngsters
Jessica White (3) and Aunt Colleen Nurse enjoying the sledging at The Walks in King's Lynn, after heavy snow. Picture Matthew Usher.West Norfolk is a winter wonderland as several inches of snow fell overnight and then drifted with strong winds.
The roads were eerily quiet this morning as conditions were difficult on many routes around King’s Lynn well into the day.
The A47 towards Wisbech was down to one lane each way while other major roads in the area were also just passable in places.
Snow ploughs and gritters were out early on trying to clear deep snow in places, particularly to the west of the town which seemed to have the worst problem with drifting of at least a foot deep in places.
There were no reports of serious accidents in the area and the train services were not interrupted.
But it wasn’t all bad news as youngsters made the most of the elements with sledges the only way to travel and enjoy the weather.
While no more snow was forecast during the day, there is a Met office warning for fog and icy conditions across the area later, particularly after dark, and the cold weather is set to last for several days.
Supporters of Scottish champions Celtic are in Norwich ahead of the Adam Drury testimonial game tonight.
