The Kier Construction staff put their skills and expertise to use by refurbishing the Barnardo’s shop in Riverside Walk.

The event encouraged apprentices, students and graduates to get involved with the local community by undertaking voluntary work as part of an annual team building day. This involved completely restoring the Barnardo’s branch to its former glory and making the space more aesthetically pleasing and consumer friendly.

The training day was arranged in conjunction with Kier’s two-year corporate charity partnership with Barnardo’s.

In seven hours the shop was completely transformed, ready to be restocked by more Kier volunteers the following day. After being handed back over to Barnardo’s store manager Mary Lennon the shop was open and ready for services on September 5.

Graham Howe, Kier Construction managing director, said: “This is the second year we have run this type of event, it’s great for team building, with some fun and hard work thrown in - and most of all it’s an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community”.
