Jury inquest hears how woman died after being struck by a train

A woman with a history of mental health and alcohol problems was killed after being hit by a train at Salhouse station, an inquest heard this morning.
Margaret Griffiths died on May 27 last year after the Norwich to Sheringham service struck her at around 6pm.
In a statement read at the inquest at Norwich coroner’s court today the train’s driver recalled how he slammed on his emergency brakes when he saw Mrs Griffiths and her two dogs on the track.
He sounded his horn and gestured at her to move out the way, but the secretary looked back at him and shook her head, the inquest heard.
Mrs Griffiths was around two times over the drink drive limit when she was struck.
The train could not stop in time and Mrs Griffiths was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The jury is expected to return a verdict on the death this afternoon.
