Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is backing this year's Norfolk Show Ball - a charity event that will raise funds for Veterans Norfolk.

The event is a new initiative aiming to help put current and ex-servicemen and women in Norfolk in touch with support.

Former head of the British Army General the Lord Richard Dannatt, who lives near Norwich, is president of the umbrella charity.

Mr Ruddy said: 'I would like to wish Veterans Norfolk all the very best with their Norfolk Show Grand Summer Ball on June 20.

'I very much hope it's a success and helps to raise the profile of this local charity and funds for them to help support veterans and their families in Norfolk.'

The ball will take place in the marquees adjoining the president's pavilion at the Norfolk Showground.

Lord Dannatt said: 'I am delighted that John Ruddy has given this backing to Veterans Norfolk and the Norfolk Show Ball.

'His support, and that of all those who buy tickets and come to the ball, will really make a difference to our ability to look after the needs of veterans – young and old – across our county.'

The evening, billed as a highlight of the county's social calendar, is on June 20, starting with a drinks reception at 7pm.

Guests will be able to enjoy a musical start to the evening when the band of 3rd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment will be playing at 7.15pm and through dinner.

There will also be a band and a disco for guests to dance to until 1am.

Tickets for the black tie event cost £75 each and can be obtained by calling 01603 757658 or emailing bookings@softleyevents.co.uk.Tables can be booked for eight, 10 or 12 places.
