Comic Jim Davidson gave Cromer’s lifeboat crew something to smile about at the end of his show which kicked off the year’s entertainment at the Pier Pavilion.
Coxswain John Davies, who was among 14 crew who went to see the show, was invited on stage by the comedian who asked the audience to donate any spare cash.
The result was £327, which was “a terrific on the spur response” said lifeboat operations manager Richard Leeds.
A service at a Sikh temple in Norwich spiralled out of control when police were called to break up a brawl.

Yes it is a great shame that we don't see this entertainer on the TV, whatever you think of his humour and his way of entertaining, you cannot say he has not supported Norfolk in many ways over the years. I wished I had been at the show. Good on you Jim I wonder how many of your critics would put their hand in their pockets when asked for donations, no many I bet.

As one who was actually AT the show, I can say he was incredibly funny. I haven't laughed so much in ages. And while it was the audience who put the money into the RNLI pots, it was Jim who got Coxswain Davies up on stage, and it was JIM who asked people to donate.

Jim Davidson raises a smile? I don't believe it. A phenomenon not experienced since the 1970s surely. And it was the audience that donated the cash, not the purveyor of humourless dross either. So, all in all a completely inaccurate headline!
