Members of the Japanese embassy were welcomed for a tour around Shadwell Estate’s Nunnery Stud in Thetford.

Japan’s ambassador to the UK, Koji Tsuruoka, accompanied by his wife Yooko Tsuruoka, were joined by the embassy minister for economic affairs and the counsellor in the ministry of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

They were also joined by the general director and deputy manager of the Japan Racing Association, and Ascot Racecourse chief executive and Director of Racing and Communications, Guy Henderson and Nick Smith.

The visiting party were given a parade of stallions before seeing several mares and foals. The watched the thoroughbreds exercising in the swimming pool.

Stud director Richard Lancaster said: “We are delighted to be able to show Shadwell at such a wonderful time of year, with so many mares and foals about the place.”
