New BT Sport frontman and Norwich City fan, Jake Humphrey has been rubbing football pundit Gary Lineker the wrong way on Twitter.

BT Sport has ruffled feathers at the BBC and Sky by revealing that the channel will be free to BT broadband users.

And now Mr Lineker has taken umbrage with the ex-BBC F1 presenter for suggesting that his Match of the Day team, comprising himelf and other 50-somethings Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson, are past their sell-by date.

Mr Humphrey boasted that the new channel, which will be screening live Premier League matches next season, will feature younger pundits including Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen, and Rio Ferdinand, who are all in their 30s.

The former Framingham Earl High and Hewett School pupil said: 'I believe the audience need incisive analysis delivered by current or recently retired players who can empathise with current stars of the sport.'

But the former England star felt it was a dig at the BBC1 show's line-up of veteran experts, and tweeted Mr Humphrey: 'Be careful Jakey in the choice of your words.'

The 34-year-old suggested Mr Lineker was being paranoid and replied: 'I'm sorry Gary, you seem to have found offence where none was intended. J.'

But Mr Lineker responded: 'Apology accepted on behalf of those you know you would have offended. People with a lifetime's experience in the game and TV.'

Mr Humphrey, whose first child was born in March, hit back, tweeting to Lineker: 'You've lost me completely. There is no offence.'

Mr Humphrey, who started his career with Anglia TV, was recently named as the president of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA), and his parents still live in Stoke Holy Cross, just south of Norwich.
