Magic beans, a huge beanstalk, and a dancing cow are just some of the highlights coming to Sheringham Little Theatre when panto season hits the seaside town next month.

The cast will be performing their version of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk with a touch of Norfolk-infused humour.

This will be the first time this particular panto has graced the Little Theatre’s stage, explained theatre director Debbie Thompson.

She said: “It’s a really ambitious panto for the Little Theatre because of all the special effects the story requires but this year we felt we wanted an exciting and exceptional performance.”

The panto has been written and co-directed by West End star Killian Donnelly and Damien “Dougie” Douglas.

Originally from Dublin, this is Mr Douglas’s first time directing in England and said he looked forward to seeing the audience’s reaction to the show.

“We have a fantastic cast and there are a few different characters too,” he said.

“There will be lots of local references and the beanstalk is big - it works and it moves. It’s just exciting being in Sheringham, especially as panto is very much an English thing.”

The production includes stars such as pantomime dame Russel Hicken, who will be slipping into a colourful collection of outrageous costumes as Molly Coddle, Jack’s mother. And joining him on stage will be Cornelius Garret, playing Jack’s father, Jonathan Broderick, as Jack, and Rachel Waring, as Jill.

This year’s sets have been designed by Matt Nunn, Ron and Charlotte Sayer will be overseeing the music and Kate Withers has created the costumes.

● Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Sheringham Little Theatre from Wednesday, December 5 to Saturday, January 5. For more information or for tickets call 01263 822347 or visit
