Christmas has already arrived at one north Norfolk pub where a snowman and robin have been muscling in on a nativity scene since the end of August.

Passers by on North Walsham’s Church Street have been doing a double-take at the sight of the White Swan’s untimely festive display, according to landlord Pete Edge.

The eye-catching window is designed to promote the pub’s festive dinners in December and the stunt has proved a winner, according to Mr Edge.

“It’s certainly working. We’ve already taken 57 bookings. The window’s caused quite a storm.

He added: “Some people say it’s too early but I spoke to Barclay’s Bank the other day and they said they’d booked for theirs in June - so when’s ‘too early’?”

“It’s hard going in the pub business and you have to try all sorts of tactics. I’ve got a reindeer and sleigh upstairs which light up and I wanted to put that out but the bar staff said it would be too much.”

● The White Swan is staging comedy nights on the last Sunday of the month with the £2 entry going to charity.

On October 28 at 8pm The AJ Experience will entertain in aid of the appeal to raise £20,000 for North Walsham baby Ryan Wright, who has a rare form of cancer, to receive possible life-saving treatment in Germany.

  • I think "The Christmas Shop" on Shirehall Plain, Holt has the earliest display, as it has a Christmas display all year round.
