Friends Sam Jaggard and Kathryn Rivett, both 18, suffered fatal injuries in the collision on the A143-A146 Norwich road at Gillingham on Tuesday night.

The inquest confirmed that they both died from multiple injuries.

Shop assistant Mr Jaggard was born on October 19, 1993, and lived in Ullswater, Carlton Colville. He was described as a “prodigious” golfing talent by Southwold Golf Club’s professional Robin Mann, who had been working with him for the last year.

Miss Rivett was born on September 26, 1993 and lived in Airedale, Carlton Colville. She was described as “an outstanding student who was a high achiever at Kirkley” by John Shanahan, vice-principal at East Point Academy, where she and Mr Jaggard had previously studied when it was known as Kirkley High School.

The driver of the car and friend Georgia Puttock was also injured in the crash. The former Norwich City College student, also 18, remains in a “critical but stable” condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The three were driving towards Lowestoft at about 6.30pm when their red Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a black Mercedes going in the opposite direction.

The inquests were adjourned to a later date to be announced pending further enquiries.

Police are keen to trace the drivers of two vehicles seen on the A143 at Gillingham on Tuesday evening prior to the fatal car crash.
