A post mortem examination into the death of a three-year-old boy found he died from multiple injuries after being hit by a car, a coroner’s court has heard.

An inquest was opened into the death of Rio Bell, from Lowestoft, at the coroner’s court in Eastgate House, Norwich, today.

Deputy Norfolk coroner Jacqueline Lake said the youngster was in King Street in King’s Lynn on February 15 when he was struck by a motor vehicle.

She said Rio sustained head injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he died.

The collision happened yards from the Tuesday Market Place where the Lynn Mart was taking place.

The inquest has been adjourned until a later date, which is yet to be fixed.

Thousands have signed the petition calling for the street where he died to be closed while the Mart is in progress.

But officials say they will wait until the police investigation is concluded before deciding what lessons can be learned from the tragedy.
