Ionela Cercel, 20, died on the A134 in Crimplesham on September 23 after the car she was travelling in smashed into a tree on the road between Thetford and King’s Lynn.

Her 14-month-old son Yanis was removed from the car by paramedics and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, but died on his way to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Today’s Norwich inquest heard that the mother and child were the front seat passengers in a car being driven by the boy’s father, Marian Parvu, who was also taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

As reported, the mother had flown to England with her son just four days before to join up with Mr Parvu, who had secured work and was living in Downham Market.

The trio had lived in the remote village of Gomura Stanesti in south-west Romania.

As reported, the family had gone to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 6am because the toddler had a fever. After initial tests, his father discharged him at 7.10am. Less than 20 minutes later, the car crashed into a tree.

The inquest heard that their deaths were being investigated by the police and it was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
