People heading out on foot are being warned to take care in icy conditions.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) issued the warning after being called to several cases of slips and falls on ice as people tried to go about their daily business this morning

Falls already make up 20 per cent of emergency calls - that is around 3,600 every week. And there could be more to come with weather warnings suggesting that temperatures will repeatedly fall below freezing over the coming days.

Diane Chan, assistant general manager in Norfolk for EEAST said: “It’s important that people only go out when absolutely necessary during cold spells, but if you do have to travel please wear sensible footwear and wrap up warm.

“If you come across someone that has fallen please try to keep them warm and bear in mind that we do prioritise our calls if it is not life-threatening.”

  • I seem to recall this paper blurbing great fun, when they reported the 'staged' icy Duke St pavement video.
