Aylsham High School teacher Danny Sweatman has now raised £76,000 for a cause very close to his heart - the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Mr Sweatman, 28, of Church Street, Coltishall, started fund-raising for the charity after the death of his 19-year-old brother Ryan from the disease in January 2012. In 1991 his seven-week-old brother Joe had also died from meningitis.
The latest boost to the cause came when he and fellow Aylsham High teacher Jayne Hudson smashed through the £16,000 sponsorship barrier with their London Marathon run earlier this month - more than double their £7,000 target for the challenge.
Mr Sweatman’s training programme for the race had been interrupted by the birth of his first child, Maxwell, on March 23 and he said the marathon had been: “the toughest physical challenge I have ever done.”
He added: “I thought about Ryan and Joe and every single penny that everyone has helped me raised. Mentally, that took me over the finish line.
“There were lots of points where it would gave been easy to step aside and say ‘it’s just too difficult’ but I didn’t want to let anyone down. It was a very special day - the experience will never leave me.”
Family, friends, staff and pupils at Aylsham High have all helped towards Mr Sweatman’s grand total through a wide range of fundraising events.
