The annual Good Friday Walk of Witness organised by Sheringham Churches Together saw more than 200 people follow a group of worshippers as they carried a 12ft wooden cross from St Peter's Church to the town's highest point.

After a service at the church attended by a congregation of more than 300, prayers and hymns were led at the town clock by Sheringham Salvation Army Band, before the procession made its way through the town to the top of 63m-high Beeston Hill.

Worshippers of all ages climbed the steps of the historic landmark, which re-opened to walkers last week after being closed while work to improve access was carried out by Norfolk County Council's Norfolk Trails Team.

Lighthouse Church youth pastor Rev Peter Skivington, who took a service at the top of the hill, has helped carry the cross since every year since 2001.

He said: 'Doing this helps us focus on the true meaning of Easter and I think it is good to have a public reminder that points people to the Easter message.'

Churches together will be hosting a service at the top of Beeston Hill at 7am on Easter Sunday, followed by hot drinks and bacon rolls at Yesu, High Street. All are welcome.
