Hundreds turn out for Sheringham Christmas lights switch-on

Hundreds turned out to the event, which also boasted a flock of dancing penguins, a Santa's grotto, and stalls selling mince pies and hot chestnuts.

Entertainment on the main stage ranged from comedy and dancing from the Sheringham Little Theatre pantomime The Wizard of Oz, to music from Sheringham Primary School ukulele group and 80-pupil choir and the town's Salvation Army Band.

Former town and district councillor Hilary Nelson switched on the lights, which this year include new displays on the North Norfolk Railway signal box and Otterndorf Green.

Carnival vice-chairman Paul Starling, who organised the event with a team of volunteers, said: 'It is a fantastic chance for the community to come together and celebrate everything that's good about Sheringham.'
