Sophie Smith left her Gorleston home in the early hours of Boxing Day morning and has not been seen since.

Over the last few days the local community has rallied to join the search for the missing 21-year-old and now they're hoping their kind words will help her family.

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to share their support and well wishes with Sophie's relatives.

Emma Gallagher from Gorleston is an admin of a Facebook group called Find Sophie Smith on which she suggested people tell Sophie's family that she is in their thoughts.

She added that the family could 'see how many people have joined, and they are overwhelmed by the amount of support'.

More than 23,000 people have joined the Facebook group and many stopped by to comment on this post.

Elaine Green wrote: 'Sending best thoughts for her safe return.'

David Buckland said: 'The whole community is behind you, we will do all we can.'

Similarly, Emma Clark commented: 'I'm extremely sorry you're having to go through this and I pray to god that your beautiful daughter Sophie comes home. You're all in my thoughts.'

While Steven Hooper added: 'You don't know us and we don't know you, but your daughter/sister/cousin has touched a place in everyone's hearts, we all feel bad, so can't imagine your pain! Your daughter has brought a community together and everybody is here for you all. Thoughts are with you.'

The UEA student had been suffering from severe anxiety and depression before going missing.

She left home wearing only a vest and shorts, without her mobile phone.

It is believed she may have entered the sea at Gorleston and consquently, police have confirmed they will be conducting further coastline searches.

Sophie is described as being white, about 5ft 8, of a slim build with shoulder length blonde hair. Anyone with information should contact Norfolk Police immediately on 101.
