It is the perfect way to cool down in today’s sweltering heat.

Queues are building at an inflatable water slide set up in the heart of Norwich city centre as part of the Lord Mayor’s Celebration events.

The 100-metre three lane SlideRider, organised by Cancer Research UK, travels from Theatre Street down to Debenhams, on Rampant Horse Street.

And hundreds of spectators are lining the sides of the bright fuschia and purple ride, while water lovers grab a dingy and prepare to cool off.

John Arts, from Fakenham, brought his two young sons, Robbie, eight, and Joe, ten.

He said: “The boys really enjoyed it - it’s not quite as steep as we expected but it was good fun. It’s nice to see something different in the city.”

The slide opened at 11am and will close tonight at 10pm.

All riders must pay £10 for two trips.

Money raised on the slide will go towards Cancer Research UK’s Kids and Teens Fundraising Campaign, a movement to double the amount spent on research into cures for children and young people with the disease.
