A tour that will reveal the past secrets of Beccles was launched yesterday with the help of a horse drawn carriage.

Audio walks have been developed by the Waveney Valley Towns Group to give an insight into Loddon, Bungay, Beccles, Halesworth, Harleston, Diss and Eye, and in Beccles those wanting to learn about the town can also do so through Julia and Neil Kitchen’s horse drawn carriage.

It is the first time in 100 years a horse and carriage has been licensed to provide rides through the town, and now passengers will also have the opportunity to learn about its history after the couple formed a link with the town’s group.

The couple, who have been licensed with Waveney District Council, will put on the rides between Beccles Quay and town centre on Sundays and during the summer holidays, with prices from £2 per child.

Norman Hart, chairman of the Waveney Valley Market Towns Group, said: “It is fantastic as this was not an idea in our minds when we invented these tours.”

The audio tours can also be downloaded for free in sections as mp3s and mobile phone apps, or borrowed on an mp3 player with a leaflet from the information centre in Beccles Quay.
