Vintage tractor enthusiasts old and young held up traffic and travelled in convoy through four north Norfolk villages in a charity run to raise money for Honing church.

This morning saw people stop to wave at the 20-strong line of collectable farm vehicles, many several decades old.

And at 23, chairman of North Norfolk Vintage Tractor Club Scott Bunting was the youngest member, with 85-year-old Malcolm Bradbury among the oldest.

Mr Bradbury, who was joined on his 1976 tractor by Cocker Spaniel Lottie, said he still uses his tractor to top the meadows at his Tunstead home.

He said: 'Lottie always joins me but she never sits down, she likes looking out the windows.'

The tractors travelled to four churches Honing to Smallburgh and finished at Dilham with a barbecue.

Riding near the front was Reverend Barry Furness, who asked the tractor club attend to help raise the £250,000 needed to repair the church.

He said: 'The idea is to apply for funding but we need to show we can help ourselves.

'The roof needs replacing as well as quite a lot of guttering.'

John Lawrence, 62, was riding his father's 1954 tractor at the run and said it was a great opportunity for the tractor club to get together.

The Norfolk Walsham motor engineer, who does all the repair work himself, said: 'Between my brother and my brother-in-law we have about eight tractors in the family.

'Once you have the tractor bug you just want to keep collecting them, I definitely wouldn't part with it now.' And organiser David Garrett, who owns four tractors which date back to the 1950s, said the club liked to support local events.

He said: 'Once we realised they needed repairs doing we decided we would help raise money.'

Tractor enthusiasts travelled as far as Hevingham for the event, which saw members of the public joining the run in trailors pulled by the vintage farm vehicles.
