Lifeboat supporters were seeing double at the weekend at Cromer.

For at one stage two identical Tamar class boats were sitting off the pier end boathouse.

It marked the homecoming of the town’s main offshore boat the Lester after nearly nine months away on a refit at the RNLI headquarters at Poole.

For a while sat alongside the relief boat Edward and Barbara Prigmore before it departed to Lowestoft.

The Lester was expected to be back before last Christmas but flooding in the South resulted in a delay.

The boat, which originally arrived in Cromer in 2007, was the seventh of its class to be built and was funded by donations. Lester’s trip to Poole was for modifications to be made to the highly technical electrical equipment on board as well as strengthening the front bow.

The boathouse at the end of the pier was hosting an open morning when the handover happened - giving visitors the bonus of a rare sight of two Tamars in tandem.

Cromer coxswain John Davies added: “It is good to have our boat back as we have missed RNLI Lester”.
