The eighth annual Great Yarmouth Beer and Cider Festival is underway in the magnificent St George’s Theatre.
More than 50 different ales from a wide selection of breweries are available to sample over the long bank holiday weekend, sitting along an equally impressive selection of the increasingly popular UK produced ciders.
Yarmouth’s own Lacons Brewery has been providing hands on assistance to festival organisers, Jonathan Newman and Day Harvey, in the build up, helping in the beer selection and with the provision of equipment for storing and dispensing.
The brewery’s managing director Mick Carver said: “For centuries the Lacons name has meant a lot to the people of Great Yarmouth, not just for its beer, but for the part it played in the local community.
“We are so pleased to be able to continue this tradition and support this event as much as we possibly can, building on the success of previous years. Great British beer is flourishing and this is the perfect opportunity to showcase it.”
Tickets are available on the door with for all of the lunchtime and evening sessions with lunch time (11am to 3pm) and evening (5pm to 11pm) sessions both today, Friday, and tomorrow, finishing with a lunchtime session (noon to 3pm) on Sunday.
As in previous years, live music will play an important part of the festival, making use of the acoustics, stage and sound facilities provided by the theatre. Town Centre Partnership manager Jonathan Newman hoped to build on the success of previous festivals and said: “The new pavilion building will give an extra dimension to the festival providing more space and a great place to get some fantastic food in between pints.”
