She’s used to gracing the catwalk, but this weekend will see model and beauty queen Rebecca Turner take on a gruelling challenge when she takes part in TV’s Total Wipeout.
The show, which attracts more than 10,000 applicants each series, sees 20 adrenaline-seekers taking part in a foam assault course surrounded by water in a bid to win a £10,000 prize.
Miss Turner, who lives with her mum, Nicki, in Lakeland Way, Hethersett, auditioned in London in November 2010.
“Everyone turned up to the audition as if they were going to the gym, but I wore a ballgown, heels and my sash,” she said.
“We had to say what we would shout out before we started the course and I said: ‘I’m a Barbie girl and I’m going to give it a whirl’.”
The 19-year-old impressed the judges and was chosen to take part in the show which was filmed in February 2011 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Although she cannot reveal how far she got in the competition, Miss Turner said she found the competition to be “incredibly physical”.
“The days when we were filming were very tiring – it was really hot. I had to be a bit of a diva and do silly things like growl at the camera,” the former Hethersett High School pupil said.
“The best part of the qualifier was having a go on the big red balls and the worst bit was falling in the mud.
“Falling off the big red balls did hurt: I was winded.”
Miss Turner has been a part of the Kerri Parker Model Academy for two years and has been taking part in pageants for three years.
Before going on the show she had been crowned Miss Teen Best Smile at a pageant in London.
“I had to teach the presenter, Amanda Byram, to smile,” she said. “It was one of the best experiences of my life.”
Total Wipeout will be on BBC One on Saturday at 6.30pm.
