With Henry Blofeld anouncing his retirement, we look back at some of his finest moments in the commentary box.

• Innuendos are never far from cricket commentary, and Blowers’ colleague Brian Johnston came out with one of the famous back in 1976.

“Brian suddenly announced to an unsupecting world: ‘Well I can tell you the bowler’s Holding the batsman’s Willey,’” Blofeld once told the BBC. Johnston had his co-commentators in stitches, and it remains one of cricket’s funniest moments.

• Rarely is Blowers more animated than when England are actually doing well. When Stuart Broad took a hat-trick against India in 2011, he could barely contain his excitement.

• Blowers was on fire during England’s historic victory over Australia in the 2005 Ashes. Memorable lines include Ian Bell diving forward “like a porpoise after a fish” and “you won’t see a bigger six in a hundred years” after Flintoff launched a shot out of the ground.
