The landowner of Hemsby Marrams has announced the construction of a new section of road away from the cliff edge.

Demolition teams returned today (Wednesday) to start safely demolishing the seven dangerous clifftop properties in Hemsby which were left damaged by the brutal weather conditions on Monday.

After days of high tides and strong winds, properties have been left poised on the edge of the dune.

This comes just weeks from six clifftop properties at The Marrams being lost to erosion from the Beast from the East.

A total of 13 homes will have been lost.

Geoffrey Watling (Norwich) Ltd has allocated funds to take the road further away from the cliff edge.

Contractors have been appointed to construct the new section of roadway, inland of the existing concrete roadway.

The Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance service are being consulted to ensure that the new roadway will enable them to access all the properties on the Marrams.

The new stretch will run from the entrance of the southern Marrams, cutting off the corner of the existing roadway and reconnecting with the concrete road approximately 200m further south.

Consultation and notification of residents and chalet owners is underway and the construction work will commence in the next few days.

It is expected to be completed within 10 to 14 days.
