Fire crews have tackled a blaze at a property in Hellesdon.

A woman called 999 when she saw smoke billowing out from the roof tiles of her neighbour's house in Hellesdon.

Emergency services were sent to Reepham Road at 2.20pm on Sunday to reports of a house fire.

Crews from Sprowston, Earlham, Carrow and Hethersett spent more than an hour at the scene to control the fire.

An aerial ladder platform from Great Yarmouth was also required.

A woman living next door said she saw a 'lot of smoke' coming from the house. She believed the owner was away on holiday at the time.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using hose reels. They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots and a positive pressure ventilation fan to disperse the smoke.

The neighbour who called the emergency services said: 'There was just a lot of smoke and I could see it coming from under the roof tiles.'
