The former Anglia Television presenter will join Roy Hudd OBE and Martin Bell OBE, who already support the public hall as patrons.

Ms McDermott is admired locally from the 1980s when she worked for Anglia Television as an announcer, Birthday Club presenter and news anchor. Since then, her love of theatre has expanded into OhYesitiz Productions where she has worked on pantomime productions with award-winning actor Des Barrit.

In the past Ms McDermott has also supported the public hall as a compere for its comedy nights.

She said: “It’s a lovely venue and I very much enjoy supporting the work they do.

“I’m delighted to be a patron with Roy Hudd and Martin Bell. It’s an honour to be asked.”

Ms McDermottt will also be starring in Cowards in the Wings alongside Adrian Wright at the public hall on May 11.

Sue Bergin, events coordinator, added: “As far as we are concerned at the hall, the honour is all ours as we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Helen.”
