The Queen Elizabeth Hospital today said departments including A&E were 'operating normally' despite an outbreak of diahorrea and vomiting.

Oxborough Ward remains closed to new admissions following the detection of norovirus and C.difficile at the QEH on Friday.

West Raynham ward, where some patients are showing symptoms of norovirus, has also been closed.

In a statement today, the trust which runs the hospital said: 'At present, 25 patients on these two wards are showing symptoms of norovirus and whilst this and other forms of diahorrea and vomiting are widespread in the community, staff have been asked to remain vigilant and to observe strict hand hygiene procedures at all times.'

Visits are being restricted to two per bed. Any member of the public who is showing symptoms of norovirus or other forms of diahorrea and vomiting is asked to stay away from the hospital until 48 hours after their symptoms have cleared. 'The Trust wishes to reassure the public that the hospital, including A&E, is operating normally,' the statement said. 'This is possible due to the support of other healthcare and social care providers.'
