Police said the man was aged in his mid 20s and was from the Norwich area.

He was discovered on the ground floor level with serious head injuries at around 7.20pm.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man died at the scene. The Castle Mall and the adjoining Vue cinema were evacuated for the rest of the evening but were open yesterday.

Police officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death but they said that it was not being treated as suspicious and a file was being prepared for the coroner. The man’s name is unlikely to be released until next week.

Flowers and messages were left at Castle Mall.

A spokesman for the shopping centre said: “We are liaising closely with Norfolk police and assisting with their enquiries. Our thoughts are with the friends and family concerned at this very sad time.”

As reported, emergency services were called to the Castle Mall after reports a man had been hurt.

Firefighters, paramedics and ambulance crews were called.

Medical staff battled to save the man’s life, but police confirmed he had died, after falling from height.

A cordon was put in place while investigations started to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said they had sent two community first responders, two rapid response vehicles, ambulance and a volunteer BASICS (British Association for Immediate Care) doctor.
