A Thetford swimming club whose faulty scoreboard has meant it cannot host county galas has received a £2,000 council grant to help buy new equipment.

Thetford Dolphins Swimming Club, which has 156 members, told Breckland Council its current scoreboard is old and often does not record results accurately, which has an impact on training and competitions.

The council’s grant panel agreed to provide the money because staging county galas raises the profile of the sport in the areas where they are held, and encourages participation and increases club revenue.

However, the council said other funding also had to be put in place.
