Norwich service in memory of Edith Cavell

Members of nursing staff from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be remembering one of Britain’s most famous nurses this weekend.

Every year, a commemorative service is held at Norwich Cathedral to remember Edith Cavell, who was born in Norfolk and who died on October 12, 1915. At 10.30am on Saturday, October 13, a wreath from all of the nurses at the N&N will be laid on Edith Cavell’s grave at Norwich Cathedral.

A small group of nurses in uniform will attend the wreath laying and will be part of a procession led by the Combined Ex-Services Association, that also includes the Lord Mayor, Sheriff and a representative from the Belgium Embassy.

Assistant director of nursing Dawn Collins said: “It is important for the nurses at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to celebrate the life of Edith Cavell, for her vast contribution to nursing. Given the huge part that Edith played in establishing Nurse Education, it is very special for us to be involved.”

A service will be held inside the cathedral afterwards at 10.45am. Members of N&N staff who would like to attend the service are welcome to do so.
