A man who was told he could die if he didn't change his diet is 'over the moon' after losing two stone in just 14 weeks.

Charlie Medler was told by a nurse his cholesterol had got so high he was at risk of getting diabetes 'or worst case scenario' at risk of dying.

'I was just over 15 stone and was binge drinking and eating all the wrong stuff,' he said.

The 61-year-old, who lives near Carrow Road in Norwich, joined a Weight Watchers group on Silver Road and said he 'hasn't looked back since.'

'I lost two stone in my first 14 weeks and have now lost a total of 34 pounds,' he said. 'I now feel so much more energetic and will never go back to how I was before.'

Before he started to change his diet Mr Medler was also suffering from high blood pressure and was on medication to control it.

But the weight loss has seen his health improve so dramatically he no longer has to take the tablets.

'The doctor was happy for me to stop taking them for two weeks but wanted me to monitor myself and record what my blood pressure was,' he said. 'But if my blood pressure went over 160 I had to go back to the doctor but it never went above 148. When I went back to see him he was happy with the results and said I no longer needed to take the tablets.'

Mr Medler, who dropped two dress sizes, hopes he can be an inspiration to other people with similar health concerns.

'I'm so over the moon about my weight loss and not having to take my blood pressure tablets anymore,' he added. 'I feel great and will not go back to my old self.'
