A hospital ward has been forced to shut after an outbreak of norovirus.
Ward G9 at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds shut yesterday after six patients showed symptoms of the vomiting and diarrhoea virus.
The hospital is now urging anyone who has visited the hospital in the last week to take extra care in washing their hands on arrival and when leaving.
Anyone showing symptoms of the virus is also being asked to stay away from the hospital.
Nichole Day, executive chief nurse, said: “Norovirus is very infectious and every year there are cases in the community which transfer to the hospital.
“Because the virus has an incubation period of several days, people are often unaware that they are carrying it until after they have passed it on.”
