About 150 workers at Norfolk County Council took part in Alzheimer’s Society-run sessions organised as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

Dementia Friends is a society initiative which aims to give people an understanding of what it is like to live with dementia. To become Dementia Friends, staff were involved in a number of interactive activities and were told how to turn their new understanding of the illness into action. The sessions ran on Friday from 10am-6pm and were open to all council staff. Laura Meadowcroft, Alzheimer’s Society operations manager for Norfolk and Suffolk, said: “We know from talking to people with dementia that they can often feel disconnected from their communities. Dementia Friends is an integral piece of the puzzle and I am delighted that Norfolk County Council has embraced the initiative.”
