A new outdoor gym at Mundesley is the latest part of a £136,000 village community effort which had provided a range of facilities for young and old.
People, some referred there by local doctors who are backing the scheme, have been using eight different bits of exercise equipment on the outdoor facility at Gold Park which was opened by MP Norman Lamb at the weekend.
The gym is also hosting free weekly supervised sessions, and is the starting point for a series of waymarked local walks.
The village youth and community group, formed three years ago, has already opened a £30,000 play area and £84,000 skate park ahead of the gym which cost £22,000. Much of the money come from grants, and £25,000 from local fund raising, said the group’s volunteer fundraiser Jackie Thornton, who praised the support from local people.
“The response has been fantastic. We now have an area with youngsters using the skatepark and adults on the gym, which is helping get people fit and integrating the community.”
Group chairman Amanda Ng said the next step was looking at an indoor multi-use games area for tennis, badminton, aerobics and football which could cost £300,000 to £500,000.
